Deck repair in Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo County, since 2025.

Board replacement, railing fixes, post repair, hardware swaps, sand and re-stain. Bring a Michigan deck back into safe, good-looking shape for another season. We don't do new deck builds — repair, refresh, and rescue is the scope.

What we fix

Four scopes that cover most deck repair.

Michigan weather is hard on wood — UV, humidity swings, and the occasional ice storm beat decks up faster than they should. Most deck jobs land in one of these four buckets.

Board & Plank Replacement

Warped boards, splintered planks, broken stair treads. We pull the damaged ones, check joists underneath, install new boards matched to your existing deck.

  • Single-board to multi-section
  • Pressure-treated, cedar, or composite
  • Joist inspection included

Railing & Posts

Wobbly rails, loose pickets, leaning posts, failed connectors. Re-anchored with StrongTie hardware where needed, code-respecting baluster spacing.

  • Railing tightening & repair
  • Post re-anchoring
  • Picket and baluster replacement

Re-staining & Sealing

Pressure wash, sand the rough spots, two coats of stain or seal. Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck or Penofin oil — your call. Weather-window scheduled around it.

  • Pressure wash + sand
  • Two coats stain or seal
  • Color-matched to existing

Hardware & Joist Repair

Rusted joist hangers, popped nails, loose ledger boards, failing post bases. Replace with appropriate StrongTie hardware — gets the deck back to spec without a full tear-down.

  • Joist hanger replacement
  • Ledger and post hardware
  • Rust treatment + galvanized swap
How it works

From walkthrough to first cookout.

01

Walkthrough

Decks need an in-person look — we check joists, posts, hardware, board condition, and railing stability. The walkthrough is always free.

02

Estimate w/ scope spec

Written estimate breaks down board replacement, hardware, sand and stain (if included), and any joist work. Material spec on every line so you know what's going on the deck.

03

Schedule (weather permitting)

Repair work books year-round. Stain and seal we schedule in March–May or September–November windows when Kalamazoo weather cooperates.

04

Repair, sand, finish

Replace boards, fix railings, sand rough spots, apply stain or sealer, clean up. Deck back in service — usually 24–48 hours after final coat for foot traffic.

Deck pricing

Priced per job, in writing, before we start.

Every deck repair is priced per estimate — fixed-price or hourly depending on the scope — with material listed separately from labor, whether it's pressure-treated, cedar, or composite.

Deck FAQ

What people ask about deck repair.

Yes — that's most of what we do on Michigan decks. We pull the warped boards, check the joists underneath, and install new boards matched to the existing wood and finish. After a season the new boards weather to match. If half the deck is warped, replacing the whole deck surface is usually a better call than chasing individual boards — we'll tell you which side of the line you're on after a walkthrough.
Default is Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck (semi-transparent or solid, your call) or Penofin penetrating oil for older decks. Both hold up to Michigan summers and the strong UV. We list the brand and color on the estimate. For decks we didn't install, we color-match the existing stain or recommend a clean refresh in a similar tone — your call.
Most leaning posts are fixable — usually the footing has shifted or the post-to-deck connector has loosened. We check the footing, re-anchor with appropriate hardware (StrongTie post bases for new connections), and brace if needed. Posts with rotted footings or significant structural damage we'll flag — those sometimes need a structural repair beyond handyman scope.
Composite board replacement yes, if we can source matching boards (Trex, TimberTech, AZEK — most major brands available locally). We pull the damaged board, install the replacement using the existing hidden-fastener system. Older composites that are no longer manufactured are harder — we'll tell you up front if a match isn't available.
Kalamazoo's weather window for staining and sealing is typically March through May and September through November — temperatures are stable, humidity is reasonable, and there's a multi-day dry stretch needed for stain to cure. Mid-summer (90°+) we avoid because stain dries too fast and leaves lap marks. Board replacement and railing repair we do year-round — those don't need the weather window.
